Colin Picker, who has played a significant role in the development of his field, was recently appointed as the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (College of Business and Law) & Vice-President at RMIT University. Professor Picker's place among his field reflects his roles in being the lead founder of the Society of International Economic Law as well as initiating, nurturing and leading numerous other societies in international economic law and comparative law, including the South Asia IEL Network, the Asian IEL Network (focused mostly in East Asia), and numerous other such bodies around the world. In addition to supporting and growing his field, his research in comparative and international economic law has been widely cited. His work has spanned development of innovative methodological approaches (combining classic comparative law and other methodologies to reveal new insights), a focus on China's role in the international economic legal order, and work in capacity building in developing countries and regions.  His publications, typically resulting from projects that span the globe to ensure a diversity of perspectives, have appeared in leading journals as well as in works published by Cambridge, Oxford, Bloomsbury and Routledge publishers.  Professor Picker's extensive experience in legal education and research, through all levels of university leadership, is expected to introduce new perspectives and initiatives that will strengthen RMIT's position in business and law education, research and engagement.
