Location:
Beit Maiersdorf, Mount Scopus Campus, Jerusalem

The Minerva Center for Human Rights at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem will be holding an international symposium on Designing an Effective National Human Rights Institution: Israeli and International Perspectives. The symposium will take place on Monday, January 7, 2019, at Maiersdorf Faculty Club, on the Mount Scopus campus of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

The symposium brings together leading scholars and practitioners engaged in the research of the effectiveness National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs), together with Israeli government officials and practitioners working in the promotion and protection of human rights in Israel. The first part of the symposium will explore recent developments in the research of NHRIs internationally and offer insights regarding the ways to design effective NHRIs through formal design and beyond. The second part will include a roundtable discussion on challenges, dilemmas and opportunities regarding the establishment of an NHRI in Israel.

The symposium is the culmination of a 3-year research and consultation project at the Minerva Centre for Human Rights at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, made possible by a grant from the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR).
