Recently, the International rounds of the Jessup Moot Court competition took place in Washington D.C., where about 132 teams from 86 countries around the world participated in the competition. The members of the Hebrew University's team – Michal Goffer, Tal Mendelson, Rebecca Baskin, Stav Zeitouni and Shahar Brukner – enjoyed four victories in the preliminary rounds of the competition, leading them to the elimination rounds that include only 32 teams. In that stage they won two additional matches and team advanced to the quarter-final round. In that round they lost to the team from Argentina, which continued all the way to winning this year competition.
In addition to the team's impressive performances mentioned above, we are very proud of our team's outstanding achievements enumerated below: 1) The team won the first place for both its applicant's memorial and its respondent's memorial, as well as the first place for its combined memorials scores (a precedential accomplishment); 2) At the end of the preliminary rounds, the team's combined scores led it to be ranked third in the world, out of 132 teams; 3) The majority of the students were ranked among the best 100 oralists in the competition; 4) Ms. Stav Zeitouni was elected as the best oralist for a non-native English speaker. Finally, the team kept up positive morale and friendly relations with all of the groups who participated in the competition, and in doing so acted as ambassadors to the University and the State of Israel. Warm congratulations to the team!
